The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has arrested three police officers, an enlisted policeman, a sailor from the Dominican Armada and a civilian who were caught in the act of assisting drug dealers by negotiating the freedom of members of a powerful international drug dealing gang. They were found in possession of over half a million dollars.
The five men who were arrested, Major Francisco Antonio Peralta, Captain Miguel Angel Belen, Second Lieutenant Pedro Peralta, Seaman Manuel Perez and civilian Deivi Mejia Valdez were taken to DNCD headquarters.
The DNCD, together with the United States DEA, had been tracking an international drug dealing organization and they were in the middle of a transaction involving a large amount of money derived from drug sales.
As they were following the gang they witnessed the police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (DICRIM) apparently arresting a sailor and a civilian who they then took into a car. However, instead of taking their “prisoners” to a police station they drove around Santo Domingo until they met up with the leader of the drug ring when the arrest took place.
