Innovators of America awards

The Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE) and Innovators of America (CAF Latin American Development Bank) have announced the winners of the first Innovators of America Dominican Republic-ANJE Awards. They received 249 entries from 15 provinces. The awards were presented at a ceremony held at the Central Bank auditorium in Santo Domingo on Thursday, 1 October 2015.

ANJE president Biviana Riveiro Disla said that the initiative was aimed at highlighting the relationship between innovation and sustainable development and at encouraging local creativity and innovation.

Innovators of America director Gabriel Sanchez Zinny stressed the quality of the competitors in the first contest and encouraged others to participate in the regional challenge in 2016.

The winners in the Innovations category of RD$225,000 each are:

Science and Technology: Paola Santana for MatterNet transportation system.

Enterprise and Industry: Gian Luis Pereyra for Kikaboni Pita Chips.

Social Development and Education: Alejandro Jose Garcia Morales for his Mathematical Multipliers, to coach students for the Mathematics Olympiads.

Sustainability and Ecology: Andris Daneil Disla Cordero for an invention for washing and waxing a vehicle without using water.

Winners in the category of innovative ideas, with awards of RD$45,000:

Science and Technology: Ramon Correa for his mobile tourism unit, a low-cost lodging prototype.

Social Development and Education: Friman Leandro Alcantara Diaz for his “My Blood Saves Lives” application.

Sustainability and Ecology: Richard Ruiz Reyes for his Marine Farm for harvesting seaweed.

Enterprise and Industry: Enmanuel Alcantara for his Korptest, a platform for psychological tests for small business to improve their staff recruitment

Roniel Rafael Guzman Toribio’s Hub MakerSpace won the public choice award.
