The Santiago Public Prosecution Service is asking for a five-year jail term for lawyer and broadcaster Marcos Martinez, accused of using false documents and allegations against Vice President Margarita Cedeno, wife of former President Leonel Fernandez.
The former First Lady’s defense lawyer Luis Miguel Pereira has asked for the same jail term and also wants his client to be paid RD$50 million in damages.
These requests were made to judges in Santiago who are currently hearing the case against Martinez. Meanwhile, Martinez’ lawyers are objecting to the proposed sentence stating that the case against their client has not been proven and should be dropped and Martinez freed.
