Following a wave of robberies and attacks by people on motorcycles, the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) and the Attorney General’s office have signed an agreement to take decisions about motorbikes that are retained.
As part of the agreement, is aimed at registering and identifying all the motorcycles in the country, Amet must inform the Public Prosecution service about the vehicles and motorcycles they have retained for infractions.
Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito said that this should help reduce muggings and motorcycle robberies.
Amet director, Frener Bello Arias concurred that increasing controls on motorcycles would contribute to public safety.
The current cost of renewing motorcycle plates is only RD$100.
