Loss of Fernando Rainieri saddens nation

Large sectors of the Dominican Republic were deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of businessman Fernando Rainieri at the age of 67, as reported in Listin Diario. Rainieri had served as Minister of Tourism as well as the director of Infratur, a major player in the tourism development of Puerto Plata, the south coast and the Bavaro area. Rainieri was the younger brother of Puntacana Group president Frank Rainieri.

President Danilo Medina attended the wake and commented that Fernando Rainieri, who served as Minister of Tourism from 1986-1990 had been a pioneer of the tourism industry and man of great vision.

Rainieri was also a mentor to thousands of young Dominicans and was known for his generosity with his time and knowledge. His wake was held at the Blandino funeral home on Abraham Lincoln Ave. in Santo Domingo, on Wednesday, 7 October 2015 causing long traffic jams in the surrounding area due to the large numbers of people who wanted to pay their last respects to the eminent business leader, best known for his strong ethics. There were two-hour waits in the funeral home for giving condolences to his widow Pilar Soto and family.
