The Ministry of Public Works and Communication (MOPC) has announced that it will close the overpass on the Las Americas Highway that leads to Las Americas International Airport for maintenance works today, Thursday 15 October 2015. The road section is known as Route 66 in commemoration of Sammy Sosa’s record 66 homeruns when playing for the Chicago Cubs.
Then on Friday, 16 October, maintenance works will be carried out on the overpass at Los Alcarrizos on the Duarte Highway.
The works include cleaning the central barriers, collecting trash, washing the reflective signage, and sweeping up the loose sand and gravel together with weed control and a general cleanup. They will also be checking the electrical installations and repairing the lights.
The MOPC asked the public for their patience, especially the drivers who normally use these areas while pointing out that this work was essential in order to keep the roads in good condition.
