The Presidency has replaced the provincial governor of El Seibo, Jesus Rafael Mejia (El Vivo), after a video of him engaged in sexual acts with a young woman did the rounds on social media. The video shows the woman complying with his requests. Decree 307-15 replaced him with Federico Antonio Bencosme Ulloa. Mejia had been governor of El Seibo since the start of the Medina administration in August 2012.
On a TV program, Mejia admitted making the recording, but denied that he had released the video, saying that it was on a cell phone that he had not used for a year and a half.
Relatives of the woman who appears in the video, Andreina Mercedes, are asking the Prosecutor General to take action against Mejia for releasing the video.
The former governor says the video had been circulated to damage his bid for selection as the ruling PLD party deputy for the province of El Seibo. Before the video was posted on You Tube, polls showed he was the leading candidate for the post.
