Good news. Voters in the 2016 national elections will not have to dip their finger in indelible ink. As part of the installation of the new electronic voting system, their fingerprints will be recorded instead. The measure was decided during a Central Electoral Board (JCE) plenary meeting on Wednesday, 14 October 2015.
The JCE also announced that changes of address on voting cards would only be accepted until 30 October 2015. The JCE has complained of irregular changes of address by thousands of voters who claim to have moved to areas with small voter populations, like the border provinces with Haiti. The JCE has acknowledged this could be done to influence the outcome of the elections.
