The Fuerza Nacional Progresista party and the Polo Soberano political movement announced the candidacy of deputy Vinicio Castillo Seman to senator for the National District at an event held yesterday, Sunday 18 October 2015 at the Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel. The event was led by the board of the FNP and attended by both organizations’ candidates for deputies and municipal posts.
The FNP was a strong supporter of the ruling PLD for many years, especially during the Leonel Fernandez presidency, with key politicians holding senior cabinet posts until recently when they resigned from the government following differences with President Danilo Medina’s policies.
Castillo proposed to add basic Internet service to the governmental Tarjeta Solidaridad welfare card. He also called for the law to be changed so that the President may not remove the Attorney General from the post, to ensure independence. He proposes that the Attorney General should be appointed by consensus through the National Magistracy Council, which is also responsible for designating Supreme Court judges.
