Shopkeepers along the Las Americas highway, the Charles de Gaulle Avenue and Boca Chica have complained of people making purchases using counterfeit RD$500, RD$1,000 and RD$2,000 notes over the weekend of 17-18 October 2015.
According to one shopkeeper, the fraudsters are very smart, talking about their plans, asking for goods and then leaving smiling.
Another complaint was about a group of minors riding motorcycles who mug people waiting for public transport along the Las Americas highway, Avenida Espana and the Juan Carlos Bridge.
The shopkeepers say that some of the police stations in Santo Domingo East are aware of the fake money and the muggings but are doing nothing.
