Foreign Relations Minister Andres Navarro has expressed hope that cordial bilateral relations can be re-established once the elections in Haiti are over.
He said that the Dominican Republic has great hopes for improvements once the elections have been decided, as Haiti has not had a parliament since January this year. Navarro said he hoped that a new strong government would cooperate for improved security and interaction between both nations.
He said that Foreign Ministry officials have met with leading businesspeople in Haiti and that this week they would be speaking to Dominican businesspeople to deliver a proposal on behalf of the country to the next bilateral meeting.
He added that the meetings being held now would determine when President Danilo Medina would go to Haiti and what needed to be discussed when he went.
He said that as far as he knew, the elections in Haiti had been organized without major incidents and he hoped that the results would be announced as soon as possible.
Navarro concluded by saying that the second round of parliamentary elections would take place in November 2015 and he hoped that once the new parliament was in place the relationship between both countries would improve significantly.
