Felix Bautista proud Supreme Court rulings

PLD senator Felix Bautista proudly stated on Monday, 26 October 2015 that he has six rulings from the Supreme Court of Justice releasing him from penal responsibility for corruption, as reported in Diario Libre. The six rulings have prevented the case for corruption when he headed the Office of Supervisory Engineers of the State (OISOE) from being heard in court.

Bautista made the statements to support his decision to sue journalist Juan Taveras Hernandez (Juan TH) for a statement the journalist made on the Z101.3 program claiming that Bautista had “robbed the country” while at the helm of the OISOE. Bautista added, however, that he was open to reconciliation with the influential radio station’s owner, Bienvenido Rodriguez.

Speaking on the Matutino Alternativo morning talk show on Tuesday, 27 October 2015, Lawyer Francisco Alvarez called Bautista “the symbol of impunity” in the Dominican Republic. Bautista has never revealed how he went from declaring RD$500,000 in assets in the first Leonel Fernandez government to being worth over RD$25 billion.

Yesterday, Tuesday 27 October 2015, Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito said he would not take the last appeal to cassation court. Lawyer Alvarez believes that Dominguez Brito’s argument that he does not trust Dominican judges is not a good reason for not taking the final step. Legal experts believe that Bautista could be sentenced for at least having falsified his statement of worth. Alvarez made a parallel with the case of Al Capone who was successfully tried for tax evasion and not for all the murder charges.
