Nicolas Christopher Pisapia, one of the Frenchmen sentenced to 20 years for drug trafficking along with the two pilots who fled the country, and who is also under house arrest, will be travelling to Santo Domingo this week to appear before the court to check-in with the judge to comply with the periodic registry requirements in accordance with his sentencing. Pisapia also plans to visit the French Embassy at during his trip to the capital.
His lawyer, Andy De Leon, has confirmed that his client will be visiting the French Embassy to discuss matters related to his case, which is expected to be appealed shortly. Pisapia is concerned that the flight of the two pilots, Pascal Fauret and Bruno Odos, will complicate his case and so as a signal to the court of his commitment to honor the terms of his sentencing, he has announced his movements in advance.
Pisapia denies having any links at all with the pilots and confirms says that he has no intention of fleeing the country. While proclaiming his innocence he says has faith in the Dominican system of justice.
Pisapia was arrested on 13 March 2013, at Punta Cana International Airport shortly before he was to leave on a private jet with a cargo of 700 kilos of cocaine on flight destined for St. Tropez in France. He spent 15 months in jail before being allowed to complete his sentence under house arrest. Pisapia was convicted along with the two pilots and the flight attendant Alain Castany who is currently in a private clinic after having been struck by a car.
Pisapia has denied knowing anything about the drugs, even though it appeared the 26 suitcases on board containing the cocaine was his.
