Threat of floods

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is forecasting rain for the Cibao region and some other areas in the northwest and northeast due to a weather front linked to Tropical Depression 12, which has formed over the Bahamas but will not be heading in the direction of the Dominican Republic. It is moving west-northwest at around 24 miles an hour.

Onamet says that the rains and storms are most likely in the provinces of La Altagracia (Higuey), La Romana, Peravia (Bani), Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), Monte Plata, Monsenor Nouel (Bonao), El Seibo, Hato Mayor and San Pedro de Macoris.

There will be increased wave activity in the Caribbean Sea but by Wednesday, 11 November it is expected that the weather will become more stable with less rain.
