Truckers want to continue using the Malecon

The Fenatrado truck drivers’ union and its affiliates are asking the National District City Government (AND) to postpone the resolution that bans heavy trucks from using the Malecon seafront avenue in Santo Domingo. The truckers want to be allowed to use the Malecon and the Av. Independencia until the Northern Bypass (Circunvalacion Norte) is completed.

Blas Peralta, president of Fenatrado and other transport businesses, said that they have made it clear to the authorities and the public that they do not oppose the traffic decongestion measures implemented by the city government and other institutions, which consist of diverting heavy trucks away from urban areas.

He said if the city government does not authorize the transit in eight days, they will paralyze cargo transportation.
