Dominican diaspora office opens in Puerto Rico

The Ministry of Foreign Relations has inaugurated the first Instituto del Dominicano en el Exterior (Index) office dedicated to Dominicans abroad. This is an initiative by the Medina administration under Minister of Foreign Relations Andres Navarro, who attended the inauguration at the Pedro Rosello Convention Center in San Juan on Thursday 12 November 2015.

Secretary of State Javier Gonzalez, who represented the governor of Puerto Rico at the ceremony, stated: “The office represents a step forward for supporting the development of Dominicans who work for the welfare of their families.”

Former secretary of state of Puerto Rico, David Bernier, who also attended the event, spoke of the President Medina administration’s ongoing interest in good bilateral relations between Puerto Rico and the DR.

During his visit to Puerto Rico, Navarro also met with the Governor of Puerto Rico Alejandro Garcia Padilla.
