Mourning the victims of Paris attack

French residents in the Dominican Republic gathered at the Juan Pablo Duarte Park in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo yesterday, Sunday 15 November 2015 to hold a vigil in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday 13 November 2015. Candles were lit in memory of the victims.

The French ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Jose Gomez, condemned the terrorist acts that caused the deaths of at least 129 people and said that the Islamic state will not intimidate his nation.

“The so-called Islamic State and other terrorist groups have enveloped part of Iraq and Syria under a mantle of terror, death and fanaticism, killing, torturing and enslaving those who have fallen under their domain,” the diplomat told a group of compatriots and Dominicans who lit candles in the park.

On behalf of the French government, he thanked the Dominican people for their expressions of solidarity and mentioned a message of condolence that President Danilo Medina sent his French counterpart President Francois Hollande.
