President Danilo Medina is hosting his Panamanian counterpart Juan Carlos Varela and First Lady Lorena Castillo for a two-day official visit, reported the Presidency. Varela arrived on the evening of 17 November 2015 and was received at Las Americas International Airport by Foreign Minister Andres Navarro.
Presidential press spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena told the press that Varela is visiting to learn more about the President’s “Surprise Visits”, the 911 Emergency and Safety System, the Extended Day School Program and other Dominican government initiatives. First Lady Lorena Castillo will visit the Comprehensive Care Center (CAID), serving children with special needs. Tomorrow, Thursday, 19 November 2015, President Varela and the First Lady will attend the inauguration of a CAID in Santiago.
Rodriguez Marchena said that both Presidents have become close friends through their meetings at several international summits.
Their agenda includes the signing of bilateral agreements. President Varela will also be awarded the Order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella in the rank of Grand Gold Cross. The Panamanian government will reciprocate by awarding President Medina the Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa in the Rank of Grand Extraordinary Cross.
On Thursday morning, the heads of state are scheduled to visit the Republica de Panama Public School, the AES gas plant in Punta Caucedo and another public school in Santo Domingo’s Cristo Rey neighborhood.
