In the sixth week of the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship, the Tigres del Licey are leading and the Aguilas Cibaenas are last, but all of the teams still have a chance at winning the tournament.
In the game in Santiago yesterday evening, Wednesday 18 November 2015, starting pitcher Joey Rickard not only pitched well, but he also got three hits as he led the Leones to a tight 3-2 victory over the Aguilas Cibaenas. Rickard was supported by excellent relief pitching at the Estadio Cibao. This was the Leones’ fifth victory over the Aguilas. The win brings the Leones’ record to 14-11 and consolidated their second position in the standings, just one game behind the Licey. Rickard came to bat with the score tied in the fifth inning and hit a single to drive in Eric Gonzalez with what would be the winning run.
Meanwhile, in La Romana, Jake Buchanan pitched the Toros Del Este to a 4-2 victory on 18 November over the Gigantes Del Cibao. The Toros are now tied in third place with the Estrellas Orientales. The victory brought the Toros to a 13-13 record and dropped the Gigantes to a 13-15 record. Buchanan (3-0) pitched the first six innings allowing just two runs, six hits and two strikeouts and reduced his ERA to just 2.01.
Rogers hit two homeruns as the Tigres Del Licey defeated the Estrellas Orientales by a score of 10-3 in the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. Joining Jason Rogers in a homerun fest, Juan Miranda and Marco Hernandez each hit a homerun and supported excellent pitching by Cesar Valdez. With the support of 13 hits Valdez pitched six innings, giving up just four hits with eight strikeouts to lead the blues to victory No. 16 and consolidated their hold on first place.
