On Monday 23 November 2015, an airplane with 174 passengers on board and six crewmembers had to make an emergency landing at Las Americas International airport, after suffering a mechanical fault in one of its turbines.
The American Airlines plane was en route from Charlotte, North Carolina to Aruba.
Las Americas International Airport activated its Emergency Plan and firefighting crews, Civil Defense, medical and paramedic teams and airport and security personnel were ready to respond.
Following the emergency landing the passengers were evacuated and sent to several hotels in the Boca Chica area until they were able to continue their journey to Aruba. In the meantime, the airline sent its technicians to Las Americas to try and correct the problem and they were expected to arrive later in the day.
