President Medina vows to end corruption

Speaking at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) yesterday, Monday 23 November 2015, President Danilo Medina said that he was not in agreement with those who wanted “to put everyone in the same bag,” and that there were some bad apples in all societies.

He said his government was introducing measures aimed at increasing levels of transparency and preventing acts of corruption. As an example, he mentioned the public oversight commissions that monitor public spending.

The President highlighted that his government had had a vision of working ethically and with responsibility and transparency since day one.

He said that the public budget should be used to serve Dominicans and they were trying to eradicate all bad practices both now and in the future.

Medina added that the country had made more progress in terms of transparency in the last three years than it had in decades.

He concluded by saying that his government had a goal of creating 400,000 jobs in four years and to date they had created 390,000, adding that the country needed a government to tackle social evils such as corruption head on.
