TV cameras recorded a disproportionate use of force by the police, including the use of pepper gas and violence to remove peaceful protestors yesterday, Tuesday 24 November 2015. The demonstrators showed up at the Presidential Palace one day before their usual weekly Wednesday vigil to protest against the widely covered allegations of corruption at the Office of Supervisory of the Presidency (OISOE). They are calling for the office, which is at the center of a series of corruption scandals totaling billions of pesos, to be closed down.
The images were captured by Noticias SIN and CDN TV and shown on TV and shared on social media.
After turning on the Christmas lights on the grounds of the Presidential Palace later in the evening, President Medina expressed his best wishes for a merry Christmas, and with austerity, peace and health and many family gatherings.
When asked by a journalist about the protest against the OISOE, the President nevertheless refused to comment.
