Stadium to be remodeled in time for Caribbean Series

The Dominican government has handed over a first check for RD$14 million to the Dominican Professional Baseball League (Lidom) for the remodeling of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium in Santo Domingo in time to celebrate the Caribbean Series, which is scheduled to take place from 1-7 February 2016. Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic will be playing in the leading regional tournament. The last time the event was held in Santo Domingo was in 2012.

Administrative Deputy Minister of the Presidency Lionel Senior says that they are aware of the importance of the event and wanted the country to look good.

The total budget for the overhaul is RD$34 million and will completely modernize the stadium by adding 1,000 new seats, increasing total capacity from 11,000 to 14,000 seats.

The remodeling will need to be carried out while the Dominican Winter Baseball Championship is taking place.
