The Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Gonzalo Castillo, has launched the 2015 Christmas Road Assistance and Protection Operation for all roads nationwide and involving more than 225 Military and Police Commission (Comipol) units. It will last from 1 December 2015 to 15 January 2016.
During the launch at the Las Americas toll station yesterday, Tuesday 1 December 2015, Castillo said that the service will be reinforced with 25 new patrols, 20 mobile workshops, trucks, ambulances, medical staff, emergency specialists, tow trucks and motorized units.
An additional 20 motorcycles will patrol the eight central areas of the capital including Cristo Rey, El Hoyo de Chulin, El Higuero Airport, La Parroquia, the United States Embassy and the main commercial arteries with 40 men supporting the National Police.
There will also be night patrols on the main roads leading to the international airports of Las Americas in Santo Domingo and those in Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Santiago (Cibao International Airport).
The event was also attended by National Police chief Nelson Peguero Paredes, the director of the Specialized Corps of Tourist Security (Cestur) Juan Carlos Torres, and Metropolitan Transport Authority (Amet) director Frener Bello Arias.
