Floods affecting the country

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) says that 410 people had to be evacuated from 82 homes and three communities were cut off by the recent heavy rains yesterday, Tuesday 1 December 2015. The areas worse affected were Villa Duarte in Santo Domingo East, where 50 homes were affected and in Mendoza, also in Santo Domingo East where an elderly people’s home was flooded.

In Santo Domingo North, 15 homes were affected in Mina del Barrio Agrario in Sabana Perdida in the province of Santo Domingo. More flooding was reported in the National District, the southeastern province of San Pedro de Macoris, Barahona in the southwest, and the central provinces of Santiago and Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui).

A green alert is still in effect for 14 provinces: Santo Domingo, National District, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Puerto Plata, La Altagracia (Higuey), San Cristobal, Peravia (Bani), Sanchez Ramirez, Monte Plata, Independencia (especially Jimani) and Pedernales.

The weather forecast is for less rains as the trough that has affected the country moves on.
