The Gigantes del Cibao and the Aguilas Cibaenas still have a chance to make it to the semi-finals this season, which ends on 21 December 2015.

In the latest action in the Dominican Winter Baseball League, the Leones del Escogido defeated the Gigantes del Cibao in a dramatic 2-1 game at the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo. A run producing single by Jimmy Paredes broke a tie in the 12th inning and carried the Leones to a dramatic victory. This is the third straight victory by Escogido in extra inning games and gives them a 19-18 record and the third position in the standings, 3.5 games from first place. The Gigantes (16-19) are six games out of first place.

In Santiago, at the Estadio Cibao, the new manager of the Aguilas Cibaenas, five-time champion Felix Fermin began his new job with a tight victory over the Estrellas Orientales with a score of 6-4. Slugger Zoilo Almonte went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs as he led an 11-hit offense by the Aguilas. The cellar-dwelling Aguilas have a record of 14-21 and are two games out of the fourth place, which would qualify them for the round-robin stage of the championship.

The Tigres del Licey defeated the Toros del Este at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana with another tight score of 5-4. This was the 21st victory by the Tigres in this year’s championship, keeping them firmly in first place.
