A court in Samana has sentenced a woman to 10 years in jail for stealing RD$776,000 from her employer.
Magdalena Cordero, who worked as a secretary for a cement distribution company in Las Terrenas, kept the payments that customers paid in cash.
The investigation started in 2013 when the company owner made a complaint about her after calling several customers about non-payment, and being told they had paid Cordero the money and produced receipts to prove it.
