In the past four months, the Police Central Anti Narcotics Division (Dican) has arrested 5,857 small-time drug dealers in a series of raids in the southwestern region of the country.
Dican raided 13,633 drug sales points and confiscated marijuana hidden in secret compartments in trucks, buses and other vehicles. They also confiscated RD$754,847, US$1,646, 2,950 euros and 3,000 Haitian gourdes.
In addition they confiscated 76 small firearms and nine large ones, 1,036 cell phones, 180 scales, 11 walkie-talkies, 624 motorcycles and 61 vehicles.
