The Dominican Republic has become only one of eight countries in the Americas to win slots for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games in weightlifting. The Dominican athletes earned their slots with their performance at the World Weightlifting Championship in Houston, Texas.
Placements were:
Yuderqui Maridalia Contreras, 9th in the 58 kg category
Beatriz Elizabeth Piron 11th in the 48 kg category
Candida Vasquez 26th in the 48 kg category
Crismery Dominga Santana Peguero 17th in the 75 kg category
Ernestina Mercedes Familia Checo 26th in the 75 kg category.
