Felix Bautista leads in TI Unmask Corruption contest

PLD senator for San Juan de la Maguana, Felix Bautista is winning the Transparency International online contest for the person who best represents corruption around the globe. A shortlist of 15 nominees was made, including Bautista. Bautista has received seven Dominican judicial rulings preventing his case from being heard in local courts.

Transparency International says the selection criteria were: best fit with the TI definition of grand corruption, history of going unpunished, international in nature to highlight the need for changing the system and, of great importance, that the cases selected do not pose safety, security or libel risks to anyone.

Bautista is mentioned as “allegedly self-enriched with millions in state funds and his political connections appear to make him untouchable.” Organizational secretary of the ruling PLD, Bautista has received seven rulings from the judiciary releasing him from having to sit in court to defend his wealth.

The voting for the most corrupt person will take place through 9 February 2016.
