Former President Leonel Fernandez, who headed the electoral mission sent by the United Nations South America (Unasur) to Venezuela, has called on Venezuelans to enter into dialogue to maintain a stable democratic government.
Speaking to journalists Caracas after in being met by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez, Fernandez said that it would be very important to maintain a democratic government during the post-electoral process and that the country could move on to the future through dialogue.
As reported, Rodriguez bid farewell and thanked both Fernandez and the former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero for coming to observe the elections that took place on Sunday, 6 December 2015.
The elections resulted in a win for the Venezuelan opposition with 107 out of the 167 seats in Parliament, according to the National Electoral Board in an initial report for 64.07% of the votes. The governmental Socialist Party took 32.93%. A final count yesterday, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 confirmed the opposition victory.
