Natural fertilizer made in DR

The National Farming and Forestry Research Council and the Bahoruco Progress Foundation have launched an educational program aimed at training banana and plantain farmers in the production of natural fertilizers.

The training course took place on the Hacienda Guzman model farm in the province of Valverde (Mao), where the farmers were given a demonstration of biols production, an alternative natural plant fertilizer.

This fertilizer comes from a mix of water, animal waste, molasses, milk and several legumes. This fertilizer will provide significant benefits for the farmers. During the workshop there was also a demonstration of manufacturing techniques for Bocashi, another natural fertilizer obtained from the fermentation of organic material during its decomposition process.

A total of 66 farmers from Villa Jaragua, Neiba, Tamayo, Batey 6 and Galvan took part in the exercise.
