Emergency services improve at Plaza de la Salud

President Danilo Medina attended the inauguration of modern emergency areas at the Hospital General Plaza de la Salud (HGPS), the country’s leading public hospital yesterday, Thursday 10 December 2015. The new facilities cover an area of 750 square meters and have 32 beds, in two sections, one for adults and another for children. The chairman of the HGPS board, Dr. Julio Amado Castanos Guzman said that the areas have been equipped with the latest technology in preparation for becoming a mega emergency area in case of a major national disaster. He added that the area was planned four years ago given the demands of services at the hospital, and that in 2014, around 46,971 patients were treated at the older installations, and these numbers are growing for this year.

“Given the increase in traffic accidents, heart problems and other situations, there is more demand for emergency services,” he said. In the past 20 years, according to Castanos Guzman, HGPS has worked to ensure that its emergency services meet the highest international standards. He said they have a school to train first-rate emergency specialists.
