The Dominican Migration authority has deported four Syrian citizens who had arrived in the country legally but had tried to travel on to Madrid with false documentation. The men were being detained at the Centro Vacacional Haina. They left via Punta Cana International Airport yesterday, Thursday 10 December 2015, on board an Avianca plane to Colombia, from where they will take another flight to Istanbul before traveling on to Syria.
Since the men were arrested in October, the Migration authorities have been trying to deport them but could not find a country that would allow them to make a stopover. Although the case has been covered in the press, the revelation that they had tried to travel to Spain illegally has only just been released.
