Bautista is known for his remarkable career in government that coincided with his rise from poverty prior to entering the Fernandez administration to being one of the wealthiest individuals in Latin America and a career as senator. Bautista, a pre-candidate for senator in his home province of San Juan de la Maguana, is known to have used his political influence to prevent a corruption case against him from being heard in the Dominican courts.
