More and more vehicles in the DR

The number of vehicles on Dominican roads has almost doubled in the past 10 years, and continues to increase every year. An estimated 500,000 vehicles were added in 2015 alone.

Diario Libre reports that while in 2004 there were 1,717,000 vehicles on the roads, by 2014 this had increased to 3,398,000 by 2014. Traffic jams have brought pandemonium to the country’s main urban areas.

Of the total of vehicles, in 2014, 53% were motorcycles, and 22% vehicles. 27.3% were located in the National District, 16.1% in the province of Santo Domingo and 8.5% in Santiago.
