Abel Martinez to be mayoral candidate in Santiago

According to the first bulletin announcing the results of the PLD internal elections, the president of the Chamber of Deputies Abel Martinez has won the candidacy for mayor of Santiago with 63.2% of the votes, and his rival, Ramon Rodriguez (Monchy) obtained 9,779 votes for 36.8%. A total of 113 out of the 160 voting tables have been counted so far, accounting for 72.63% of the votes. As reported, Martinez had the support of the Leonel Fernandez camp, while Rodriguez was supported by the Medina faction.

In the National District pre-candidates Jackeline Ortiz and Sandra Abinader are in the lead with 78% of the voting tables counted. So far Ortiz has 8,614 votes or 53.18%, Sandra Abinader has 6677 or 43%, and Margarita Feliciano is in third place with 448 votes for 2.79%.

So far 27 out of 84 municipalities have been announced and the second bulletin will be issued today, Tuesday, 15 December 2015. There are still some complaints including in Santo Domingo North where the votes have still not arrived. Danilo Diaz said that in cases of complaints the PLD electoral commission has ten days to respond.

Party Electoral Committee chairman Lidio Cadet expressed his regret for the incidents that left two dead and several injured as well as the cases of the theft or setting on fire of the bags containing the ballot papers. He said that these cases would be taken to the Political Committee and that those found responsible would be penalized. He said that out of 3,500 voting tables only 100 had issues, but he did not clarify what or where they all were.
