Amet on the prowl

Agents from the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) issued tickets to 836 drivers over the weekend of 12-13 December for a variety of traffic violations.

They reported stopping 96 vehicles without lights, either at the front or rear, 150 drivers who ignored traffic lights, 66 motorcyclists without helmets, 60 for using cell phones while driving, and 78 people for not wearing a seat belt.

In addition 62 drivers had no driving license and seven no vehicle tax. A total of 131 drivers were cited for obstructing traffic and 33 for not letting pedestrians cross the road. Wrong way drivers accounted for 52 drivers and also 53 for driving in a prohibited area. Amet stopped 22 drivers for making illegal U-turns and 16 with no number plates.

Finally 11 drivers were ticketed for exceeding the speed limit.
