According to the National Consumer Rights Protection Institute (ProConsumidor) the prices of the main products in the family basket are still on the rise.
Between 28 October and 26 November 2015, 60% of the 40 products that make up the basket increased in price. Those items included smoked pork chops which went from RD$122.37 to RD$127.95, white malanga (yautia) (from RD$53.47 to RD$59.31), yellow cheese (from RD$184.61 to RD$189.90), dried herring (from RD$ 86.02 to RD$ 89.08) and red onions (from RD$57.50 to RD$60.16).
There were also price increases of five-gallon drinking water bottles, red beans, soya oil, tinned sardines, beef, potatoes, ground beef, spaghetti, cornstarch, green bananas, salami, oats, liquid milk, salt cod, white sugar, pork, evaporated milk and chocolate.
Some products have been reduced in price, including powdered milk from RD$1,392.49 to RD$1,387.32, pinto beans (from RD$ 53.10 to RD$50.01), imported garlic (from RD$189.84 to RD$187.16), fresh chicken is down from RD$56.52 to RD$53.71, cassava (yuca) (from RD$21.62 to RD$19.86) and pumpkin (from RD$ 28.09 to RD$21.42).
There were also decreases in price for bouillon cubes, coffee, white flour, tomato paste, eggs, salt, rice, plantains and brown sugar.
