President Medina suspends activities

President Danilo Medina has ordered flags around the country to be flown at half-mast in memory of the late mayor of Santo Domingo East, Juan de los Santos, who was shot to death by a debtor at his office at the Federation of Dominican Municipalities (Fedomu) yesterday, Tuesday, 15 December 2015.

According to the Government Communication Office (Dicom), President Danilo Medina’s program of events for yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 15 December 2015 were suspended following the murder of the mayor of Santo Domingo East, Juan de los Santos.

The President was due to inaugurate the new roads from Santiago to Janico, Janico to San Jose de las Matas, San Jose de las Matas to El Rubio, Santiago, Cruce del Pedregal and Guajaca to San Jose de las Matas in Santiago province.

A press luncheon planned for today, Wednesday 16 December 2016 has also been suspended.

In addition, a meeting of the PLD Political Committee scheduled for yesterday evening, Tuesday 15 December, was suspended due to the murder of mayor De los Santos, who was a member of the committee.

PLD general secretary Reinaldo Pared Perez announced the suspension of the meeting, which had been scheduled for 7pm, via his Twitter account.

He also announced that party president Leonel Fernandez would be holding a press conference at the PLD headquarters at 7pm.
