MESCyT stands by its medical students test

Minister of Higher Education Ligia Amada Melo has announced that she will take the case of standardized examinations for medical students to the Constitutional Tribunal. The state university, UASD, is challenging the 75% pass grade requirement for all medical students announced by the MESCyT to ensure quality of graduates. The UASD rector Ivan Grullon says that the MESCyT does not have the legal grounds to apply the test.

As reported in Diario Libre, other universities have not objected to the test being applied by the MESCyT as they accept that it is a step towards better quality education.

UASD rector Ivan Grullon is objecting to the new requirement on the grounds that it would put students coming from elite universities at an unfair advantage.

At present, the UASD is in charge of testing students.
