The role of the opposition

In his editorial today, Monday 21 December 2015, Diario Libre executive editor Adriano Miguel Tejada writes that many people are expecting the press to make the comments that the opposition should be making.

He mentions the case of the Azua power plants publicly offered by the government to the private sector, and how the opposition has not come forth to say: “Ah… after they are overvalued, now they want someone else to ‘wash’ the theft.”

Or how the President declares himself impotent in the face of violence and prays to God, and the opposition doesn’t dare point out that that was what he was elected and paid to do, not to go around jumping over puddles with photographers following him.

He ends by asking: “Where is the opposition that seems to want to leave it up to the private sector to confront the transport unions that are protected by the political parties that used them as shock troops?”
