Latinobarometro: Dominicans satisfied with life

Listin Diario and El Dia are giving front page coverage to the Latin American Barometer Report 2015 that had been published in November 2015. In their 22 December 2015 issues, the local newspapers report that according to the Latin American Barometer Report 2015, Dominicans are the happiest people in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Happiness levels are not wealth related, as the poll found that even Dominicans who can’t make ends meet at the end of the month, are innately happy. Meanwhile, 22% of respondents said their personal finances have improved in 2015.

In the levels of satisfaction with life, democracy and the economy, Dominicans lead the list with 88% satisfied with life, 54% satisfied with democracy and 33% satisfied with the economy. Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Ecuador and Brazil followed in that order in Latin America.

The report says that the main challenges for the region are unemployment, crime and corruption. For the Dominican Republic, however, the main problem as reflected in the poll is crime and public safety.

The poll was carried out in 18 countries in the LAC region from 15 January 2014 to 15 February 2015, with a margin of error of 3%, according to the Listin Diario report.
