Yesterday, Monday 21 December 2015, President Danilo Medina headed a graduation ceremony for the Sixtieth Class of Midshipmen 2011- 2016, made up of 15 members of the Dominican Navy.
The President was received with military honors, befitting the occasion and the blessing was given by naval priest Captain Miliciades Florentino Romero.
Captain Anthony Manuel Yadeo Jiminian Objio and the director of the Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Cesar A. De Windt Lavandier also made speeches.
President Medina presented a saber to the graduates after swearing them in as graduates in Naval Science before they received their diplomas from Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Maximo William Munoz Delgado.
The honor graduate was Jonathan Montes De Oca Herrera and the “Concept of Duty” award went to Juan de Dios Peguero Ramirez.
The Naval Aptitude prize was won by Amilka Miguel Castillo Hidalgo, and the Best Conduct prize by Ismael Jorge Pena.
During the ceremony the first midshipwomen marched and it is the first time since the Navy was founded that women have been allowed to join.
