4.6 earthquake in northwest

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale was registered in Montecristi province at 11.25am on Saturday, 2 January 2015. The quake was also felt in the provinces of Samana, Moca, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago Rodriguez, Dajabon and Mao with people running into the streets in Castanuelas, Montecristi due to the intensity of the earthquake. It was also felt in the Haitian border town of Ouanaminthe.

So far there have been no reports of injuries or damage although it did cause a lot of panic among the population in the Dominican Republic and especially in Haiti, as the sixth anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake that hit the country on 10 January 2010 approaches.
