Accused of drug trafficking, El Chino should not be extradited

Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Velazquez, president of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) says that suspected drug dealer Jesus Pascual Cordero Martinez (El Chino) should go on trial in this country to make sure he receives the correct sentence.

He said that there is enough evidence against El Chino to ensure this but the decision as to whether or not to extradite him to the United States is in the hands of the Public Prosecution Service.

El Chino is being held in a maximum security cell in the Anamuya Jail in Higuey.

After several major drug dealers extradited to the United States made deals with the US judiciary that have led to reduced sentences and enabled them to return to the country to enjoy their great fortunes, the national authorities may now be thinking twice about extradition.
