Tax Agency reports 84% get stickers

The Tax Agency (DGII) says that by noon yesterday, Wednesday 6 January 2016, 848,805 people had renewed their motor vehicle registration sticker known as the marbete. Tomorrow, Friday 8 January is the last day for all renewals. As of Wednesday, 15% of the million vehicles due for renewal had yet to do so.

The DGII reported collecting revenues of RD$1,122,626,000 for the vehicle registration tags.

This year, 54,000 people renewed their stickers via the Internet, through 21 December 2015, up 21% over vehicle owners who used that method last year.

From Saturday, 9 January, there will be a RD$600 late fee charge and renewals will only be issued at DGII offices. During the renewal process, this could be done at more than 1,100 points.

AMET is authorized to impound vehicles that do not display the sticker after midnight on Friday.
