Marbete sales up

The Tax Agency (DGII) has revealed that at the deadline for the purchase of the Vehicle Taxation sticker or marbete on 8 January 2016, there had been a record level of sales with 978,176 purchased for a total of RD$1,287,997,200.

This means that 97.82% of vehicle owners have renewed their marbete, representing a 7.75% increase over the previous year.

The vast majority of vehicles, 900,523, were renewed via the authorized agents, i.e. 6.74% more than last year and 54,092 renewed online which represents 21.4% more than last year.

The tax office warned that the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) would impound any vehicle without the tax sticker and reminded that drivers without the marbete could still purchase it at the 700 authorized agencies around the country but that they would have to pay a RD$600 fine.
