Prosecutors dismissed

The disciplinary court at the Public Prosecution Office has dismissed the two prosecutors linked to the robbery of more than 900 kilos of cocaine from the Central Anti Narcotics Division of the National Police (Dican).

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito said that Maximo Antonio Diaz Ogando and Ramon Augusto Veras Castro were dismissed and disqualified from reapplying for five years due to serious mistakes made in the course of their duties. They may also face penal charges.

The two prosecutors have already had their salary suspended as of this month.

Their trial begins on 20 January. The accused alongside the dismissed prosecutors are the former director of Dican, former Colonel Carlos Fernandez Valerio, the head of operations, former Lieutenant Colonel Felix Humberto Paulino Lopez, former Major Luciano Gomez Cabrera, former First Lieutenant Barbaro Torres Beltran, former Corporal Agapito Munoz Evangelista, former Sergeants Pedro Almanzar Gonzalez and Antolin de los Santos Zabala, former Private Raydiris Garcia Miranda and Miguel Ogando Ogando, who is the cousin of former prosecutor Maximo Diaz.

Humberto Paulino’s wife Cecilia Castillo Duran will not be involved in the trial, after the case against her was dismissed for lack of evidence.
