Convince Hillary to be objective, not politically correct

In an opinion feature in today’s Diario Libre, Thursday 14 January 2016, former Dominican ambassador in Washington and former dean of the Law School at PUCMM University, Flavio Dario Espinal comments on the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump pre-candidacies.

From the start, in the commentary, Espinal states that a Trump Presidency could be chaotic for the world, including the Dominican Republic.

But on the other hand, he observes that while he would expect Clinton to make a more moderate presidency, there are several reasons for concern.

On the positive side of Clinton for the Dominican Republic, Espinal points out that as senator for New York she is very familiar with the key issues affecting the Dominican community in the United States. She also has strong personal ties to friends in the Dominican Republic, where she has been a frequent visitor.

He mentions that when he was ambassador for the Dominican Republic in Washington, D.C. he observed how Hillary Clinton and then senator Barack Obama opposed the signing of the DR-CAFTA treaty in order to favor powerful constituent groups.

Espinal believes that Clinton is the more likely to win the presidency and recommends Dominican groups to act now to prevent her from favoring the activists of the US Black Caucus, the Kennedy Center for Human Rights, the Human Rights Watch, Soros Foundation, and influential legislators and The New York Times, who have been known to bend for what they believe to be “politically correct, putting aside impartiality when it comes to key issues related to Haiti that affect the Dominican Republic.

He writes: “This is why the first task for Dominicans who may exercise some influence on Hillary is to invite her to tackle these issues with objectivity, impartiality and a cool head and not automatically believe all she is told by those constituents who for their own reasons and in support of their constituencies are obliged to see things in a certain way and ignore the facts that do not match their politically correct vision of the issues.”
